Moyer agrees to 2-year deal | Philadelphia Daily News | 12/15/2008On a busy news day for the Phillies, lefthander Jamie Moyer has agreed to a 2-year contract to return. The deal took much longer than anticipated to get done, with the second year seemingly being a sticking point.
Moyer, 46, went 16-7 with a 3.71 ERA in 33 starts for the Phillies this past season, leading the team in wins. He allowed three runs or fewer in 14 straight starts, from June 6 through August 21, becoming the first Phillie to do so since 1967.
For the eighth straight season, Moyer surpassed 30 starts and for the second straight year he earned the win in the Phillies’ National League East Division Championship-clinching game in his final start of the season.
Moyer finished the season with 246 career wins.
Originally selected by the Cubs in the 1984 draft, Moyer is 246-185 with a 4.19 ERA in 637 career games (584 starts). Since being acquired by the club on August 19, 2006, Moyer has gone 35-21 with a 4.33 ERA in 74 starts, with the Phillies going 46-28 (.622) in his outings.
